In 2020, businesses were faced with economic challenges in the onslaught of the Covid19 pandemic and office space rental were one of the first aspects that were put under scrutiny.

Elements that came under dispute were the uncertainty of long-term leases, accessibility to security, and an increase in overhead expenditures including reliable internet services and general office consumables, like printers.

This could be challenging for any entrepreneur still trying to find their feet where any extra expenses needs careful consideration.

Hilda Joubert, founder of Hello Work, has dreamt about opening a modern, creative coworking space in Stellenbosch after she saw the need amongst all the dynamic and innovative startups that emerge from this beautiful university town, surrounded by vineyards, lots of local artists and comprises of a relaxed, creative environment. Following her career in UX- and UI design she developed a passion for customer service and engagement, always wanting to provide the best experience for any type of customer or user – no matter what platform gets used.

Utilising her creative flair, Hilda decided to apply her preferred style and designed the space according to the type of work environment she would love to work from – that enables people to comfortably communicate, collaborate and ideate.

The pandemic has left businesses facing not only economic challenges but also having to adapt to the new “normal”, working from home. WFH proved itself as a suitable alternative to a formal office.

In addition, employees also value the flexibility thereof and Hybrid-working conditions started to emerge.

Not only was it a scary time to start a new business, but it was also a big risk to open the doors to an industry that was still quite unknown in the target market and the surrounding area.

Aside from the fact that there are already dozens of coworking spaces in Cape Town and that this has been a big trend internationally for the past few years, it became apparent that there was indeed a need for creative, modern and flexible workspaces in Stellenbosch.

The challenge was to reach the right market and develop an understanding of what this solution entails.

By offering the best service and creative space to our community, Hello Work strives to be the go-to place in Stellenbosch for people to connect, create and deliver.
